I have to say I find the java.util.logging - straigttforward to use.
Its clear and simple - just my two cents.

[ ] Use slf4j/log4j
[ ] Define our own logging API that is a "lowest common denominator" 
type API
[ ] Define our own logging API that is not an LCD type API [ ] Use
java.util.logging directly
