No, I think he's referring to what I asked yesterday, which was "how can we
be sure that buying Office 2008 now and getting the so-called free upgrade
later is a good deal when we don't know what Office 2011 will sell for on
its own?". Now we have the answer -- if you buy Business 2008 now (in order
to to upgrade later to the 2011 version with Outlook), it will cost you
$399.95, and if you upgrade from Office 2004 it will still cost you $239.95.
On the other hand, if you stay with Office 2004 and buy the Home/Business
version of Office 2011 later, it will cost you $199.00. I guess you could
argue that, based on the 2004-2008 upgrade price, it means you get Office
2008 for $40.95, but for those of us who have gotten along just fine without
it so far, and knowing that Office 2011 will be out in a few months, I still
don't see any compelling reason to go for that offer. And, for anyone who
has to buy Office at the full $399.95 price, the so-called free upgrade path
will actually cost them $200.00 more than if they just wait and buy Office
2011 only.
