I know what SSL accomplishes when I'm connected to a web server that hosts secure traffic. I asked about what happens when I check "use SSL" in an email client. What demands does that place on the server? Does it limit my outgoing traffic to email correspondents who also have SSL activated on their clients? Can most sendmail and POP servers handle SSL traffic? What happens if I check "use SSL" in my sendmail server config, but a correspondent doesn't? If I'm MANDATED to encrypt all my email (HIPAA, for example), does just clicking this box satisfy CMS, the Federal Government's Medicare administrative agency (my guess is that it doesn't). So, once again, what happens when I check that little box in my EMAIL client (not web browsing).
