While Outlook may include some improvements for corporate IMAP users and may be more familiar for Windows users who switch to Mac, for longtime Mac POP mail users like myself, my impression, so far, is that the shortcomings far outweigh any benefits and I might be better off reverting to Entourage (until it breaks - then switching to Mail). I'll give this a week to be fair but if I can't get Outlook to perform at levels that allow me to work reasonably efficiently, then I'll have no choice but to revert to Entourage or switch to Mail. Perhaps this is why MS sells the Student/Home version of Office without Outlook -- a blessing in disguise because, perhaps, that's their acknowledgement that Outlook is more trouble than it's worth for the typical individual user and they're better off not buying it and staying with Entourage (if they have it) or Mail.
