The patch I sent didn't have a fallback, but it was only to demonstrate
what sort of change is involved ("if <cond>: exit" in download callbacks
basically). Graceful fallback to older rpm's is easily accomplished though
by just checking if the necessary symbols exist in rpm bindings or not.
I'd really, really, really appreciate it if the released version has that.

Well the timing was a bit unfortunate for 3.2.2... Anyway, the rpm-part
is now in rawhide, and the updated yum patch with fallback can be
found here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=241278
if you want to try it out before it hits rawhide.
