joe..thank you..can you describe how the hands are held in standing meditation.?... i had the feeling i needed to open my eyes however in the past types of meditations there is the instruction to close the eyes...merle Merle,
When I do standing meditation, for 20-25 minutes, I use eyes open. But lowered a bit as in normal zazen. I hold the hands in Shashu, which is the hand position we use for kinhin, walking meditation. All the body is relaxed. It's a bit like starting-position in t'ai chi chuan. Very, very relaxed. More and more relaxed with every breath. For 20 minutes. It's a great practice! When we sit (in Zen), eyes are also open. That is important. Usually we face a wall when we sit. So there's not a big visual cacophony. ;-) But follow what your teacher teaches. --Joe > Merle Lester <merlewiitpom@...> wrote: > > i was thinking like a tree after a very short standing meditation.. > standing there straight and strong.. > yet not too inflexible or rigid.. > > imagine if trees walked like we do... > > is open eyes meditation a possibility whilst i stand? > > any thoughts?
