Mike, I agree with you that "all politics is local" and you shouldn't engage in speculation about other's motives, but that and some other things you said bring up more problematic issues surrounding 'karma' - at least problematic for me.
What you've now done is introduced 'motive' or 'intention' into karmic actions. I only say this because this is another example about how your idea of 'karma' is not the same as the scientific idea of cause-and-effect. Of course if you believe, as I've suspected all along, that karma is a natural or 'cosmic' law that dispenses justice depending on the 'goodness' or 'badness' of acts, then intention would indeed fit. So which is it? Is what you mean by 'karma' just plain, old vanilla cause-and-effect; or some natural system of due process assuring the dispensation of justice?
