That's correct.

But someone who is *NOT* a follower of the Buddha (i.e., NOT a Buddhist) who 
believes in a soul may still practice Zen, and Zen methods.

Effective Zen practice may result in awakening, and in a concomitant 
dissolution of belief in a soul, but we can't say in advance, nor can we 
predict, when it comes to individuals.  People can be funny.

Some speak of a "soul" just to be poetic in certain instances; others really 
believe in such a thing.
