i'm pretty new to this but i'll take a stab at it for you.

1) from what i've seen so far working with zenoss it'll only really manage and
monitor devices that have snmp.

2) i have no idea, i've never tried that before.

3) if you go to a device and on the status page click the down arrow int he
upper left select more > zproperties, and then you can set individual
properties such as admin accounts, snmp community strings and things like that.
or you could probably create a group for each set of like accounts and stuff
you have and then add the devices to those groups. that'd probalby be easier.

4) PCs all need snmp informant, or some type of polling provider. linux
machines just need snmp turned on, and so on so forth.

5) you could try the auto discover. go to networks in the left hand pane.
select the network(s) you want to scan and click the down arrow int he upper
left and select discover devices.

6) I have no idea, that's more of an IDS function isn't it.

7) I've found that documentation on thsi system is pretty scarce and what i
have found for the most part dosn't work like it says it will due to multiple
versions being available. teach yourself, or post questions here. that's how
i've had to do it anyway.

8) Good luck, great program once you've got it setup and working and whatever
you do make sure to shutdown zenoss from the command line before you turn off
the PC. otherwise when the mysql daemon goes down it does something funny to
one of the zenoss daemons and it might not come back up.

Good luck.
