No, I don't think stream of consciousness is bad, as a starting point that is how a poem is born. But it's like having a lump of clay and doing nothing more with it. The clay can be transformed into something spectacular. The craft of the poet is to take that initial idea and make it something more than an idea...I think your little piece could become just that if you worked on it. You have at least two places where your idea changes, without any connection. A line, or a word, to show how your ideas connect, would make it less jerky.Absolutley NO poet ever writes a really good poem without revision, and the process of tinkering and fine-tuning can go on for years. Dylan Thomas is a good case in point, with different versions separated by several years. Dom Moraes is another.e e cummings not only dispensed with capitals, he removed all punctuation except for the full-stop. This is fine as long as you are careful to word your text so that it is not too ambiguous. (One can also use the line-break as a form of punctuation.) But for the moment it has its uses, such as announcing the importance of a word, or the beginning of a new sentence...makes reading somewhat easier. You have to consider why it was that it ever occurred, when the Romans ONLY used the capital letter and Mediaeval monks only used lower case...until some genius realised how easy it was on the eye to have capitals indicating importance, or change of sentence. Serendipitous. However, I also think (at present) that it looks a little pretentious, and could even be considered inconsiderate. For the moment, the shift key is a kindness to the common reader...Don't mind my comments, I run a poetry reading group and am also involved in a group that critiques new-born poems (we each read two poems, then they are torn to shreds...if you can get past the initial horror at what is happening to your baby, it actually produces some good revision work.)Comments are only thrown out for your consideration.Regards,Jane
