The cummings Bauhaus linkage is quite well known I guess...anyway apart from Lazlo Nagy, even the typographer Herbert Bayer was a strong proponent of an all lower case approach. Usability justifications and other philosophical musings aside, a lower case universe would definitely take some load of the type designer where for each new type face it would be enough to construct one letterform for one alphabet :-)
