delete foo

rather than

'DELETE' foo

is a simple example. In practise I often need multiple upper case constants in 
a single expression.

Was that a reply about the usefulness of the default value being the
variable name, uppercase? If so, I still don't see it.

Can you give an example of how you would use it?
