Bug#629874: fusecompress: Unable to open files created with older version

2011-06-09 Thread Alex Samad
Hi

Sorry, was in a rush, but I thought it might have been grave, as it could
potential lead to a loss of all the data that has been compressed.

I have a directory that I fusecomress which I use as a backup location. It
has been working fine, until I install 2.6-4 at which point all the files
that were compressed came up with io error... rolled back to the previous
version and it all came back to working again.

I will try the next one past 2.6-4

Thanks
Alex

Wow Alex...

You report a bug with grave severity and no relevant information.
Please  try with the latest version in unstable first. It has many fixes.

Bug#588969: [Pkg-openldap-devel] Bug#588969: slapd 2.4.23-1 fails to start with libdb4.8 4.8.26-1

2010-07-14 Thread Alex Samad
Hi

Sorry apologies, very light on the information. I did an upgrade of slapd
and when slapd went to start there were errors could not start expecting
version xxx and found version . At that point I guessed it was the libdb
package needed to be brought into line with slapd. Once I loaded that it
started - I had some other problems but did not investigate any further.

Bug#586913: linux-image-2.6.34-1-amd64: fix to qcserial to allow uploading of firmware

2010-06-23 Thread Alex Samad
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.34-1~experimental.2
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hi

there is a problem with qcserial since ... 2.6.32 I think - there is currently
a regression bug. Seems like there was a change in the fifo
the new method doesn't handle frmware uploads well

There is a patch for qcserial and options modules to use a shared wwan module

http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.usb.general/29707

here is a link for the patchs

is it possible to add it to the 2.6.34 build

Bug#577281: pptp-linux: pptp add host path to routing table - I don't want that

2010-04-11 Thread Alex Samad
Package: pptp-linux
Version: 1.7.2-4-alex01
Severity: wishlist

Hi

when pptp-linux starts up it adds a host route to the default routing table
I don't want this it interfers with my secure vpn client.

I have attached a path that make pptp look at the envoronment for
pptp_nohostroute - it will not add any host route at all
pptp_hostroute_tab - if it is going to add a host route add it to table x
x is the value of pptp_hostroute_tab

I have test on my system and it work, don't see any reason why it would
have a problem any where else

I was looking for the latest, so with

For Linux 2.6.32, the latest Debian package version is 7 (full version
Thats what you have told me, guess I can't find it in the repos atleast
for -686 (nor by searching with packages.debian.org), although I have

Debian package version 6 had ABI version 1. Debian package versions 1-5
had the ABI version 'trunk' indicating unstable ABI.

Bug#568208: sabnzbdplus: new version availabe 0.5 rc3

released yet. Upstream releases include a convenience copy of cherrypy
svn. Obviously, that can't be used in Debian.

Work for 0.5 on the sabnzbdplus package is mostly done though, on Ubuntu
 it's available via https://launchpad.net/~jcfp/+archive/ppa

So you can close the bug.

Bug#567099: nslcd complain when there are multiple cn's in a record

class. I was wondering if maybe the best way to handle this is to
either take the cn from the DN, or two create multiple records one for
  each cn ?

The problem with returning multiple records is that this will confuse
some applications (it is known to confuse Glibc's nscd). Also, in the
end the NSS part will only return one entry for direct name lookups
(e.g. getent passwd alex will only return one row).

Yeah I thought as much

For some object classes nslcd already looks at the DN to see the
preferred name (e.g. hostnames, the other entries are taken as aliases)
but for usernames I think this will only cause confusion. By default
nslcd only uses the cn attribute if the gecos attribute isn't set (and
uses the first attribute value it finds).

the order though is arbitrary but I guess that the best that can be done

What is on the TODO list is to implement rate-limiting for the above
messages. Something like only log a certain complaint on a certain DN
once in 15 minutes. This however needs some more thought because for a
system with a lot of problematic entries this would result in a lot of
 log messages anyway.

or maybe a flag to turn it off ?

Anyway, thanks for your email and thanks for using nss-pam-ldapd.

cool package - better than the other one :)

source is 8 disk raid6 + lvm, about 4-8G of data
dest is 8 disk raid6 + lvm.

last three times I have seen an assert failure on Memory::merge, 1 time
I saw an assert somewhere else - can't remember where now

Both servers have 1G nic, but one of the legs is only 60Mb (EoP)

have you heard much from upstream, I posted another bug there, but
haven't seen much activity there

This bug has been forwarded upstream so that the devs can provide any more

Please feel free to provide additional information you find.

Meanwhile I will try to do another upload, perhaps with the tip, to the

hi

I am running rdiff-backup across the network from one server to
another, in one instance in another I am using rsync on the same machine
- src is nfc mount. In both cases the destination is a fusecompressed
  mount point for ex

  /backups/.nas - uncompressed partition
  /backups/nas - fusecompress mounted

  rsync -aqSHz /home/alex /backups/nas/
  rdiff-backup --remote-schema 'ssh -i /root/.ssh/id_backup -C %s
  rdiff-backup --server' --exclude-sockets --exclude-fifos
  --exclude-device-files --create-full-path --preserve-numerical-ids
  /exports/something nas::/backups/.nas

I mounted the nas partition with fc_d and tailed the last 1000 lines,
I have attached to this email

from my quick glance I did not notice anything in particular.

Another thing I have noticed is it failes on hardlink as well (from
rdiff-backup)

 It is a segfault ?
If so, can you generate a core when it crashes ?

I am not sure, like i said looking at dmesg, syslog shows no sign of any
sigfault

I fear I don't understand clearly your request.

Does the when = manual option (Closes: #511299), available in Git,
 solve your issue?

 If not:

Do you want all of your backupninja jobs to be ran manually, or should
some be run automatically by cron, and some others only if whatever
 pre-condition is met?

well I was setting up my laptop and because I do a lot of travelling I
didn't want my laptop dialing home every hour to check / do a backup,
but I was looking for a framework to manage the backups and have them be
initiated manually

Couldn't you drop a shell script as the first job in /etc/backup.d/,
that would test for your required pre-condition and abort with our
halt shell function unless it is met?

I didn't realise that you could do that, but still not exactly the same
as manually initiating a backup run

I cannot make out what you are saying.

sorry.

my uncompressed directory is /backups/.max, it is fusemounted to
/backusp/max.

the file /backups/max/max/alex.zip is being compressed - when I check
/backups/.max/max/alex.zip it is being compressed.

where as a file /backups/max/max/alex.bz2 doesn't get compressed

such that unzip -l /backups/max/max/alex.zip works and unzip -l

bzip2 is a high compression algorithm. It could just be that there is no room
 for compression anymore.

some file type (based my mime type) are meant to be excluded from the

if you run fusecompress it shows you the list of files that are not
meant to be touched

application/x-zip

is one of them

such that unzip -l /backups/max/max/alex.zip works and unzip -l
  /backups/.max/max/alex.zip fails with corrupted file

Again, aren't you supposed to be accessing the data only through a
 fusecompress mounted mount point ?

I was testing this when I was looking at the fusecompress_offline which
can work with the normal fs.

I am presuming the magic sequence is so that you can identify which
files have been compressed

from the man page
fusecompress_offline - decompress or compress data without need to mount
the compressed virtual filesystem

 Yes, on purpose.

haven't tried from the logout screen, couldn't try from xfpm when I had

running. it is just sleep button - which seems to lock the xscreen saver
but not goto sleep mode

It might be related to consolekit/policykit problems, so you might want
to check if they are correctly installed/configured. Take a look at
 README.Debian in xfce4 and xfce4-session packages.

I will double check I thought I had looked at this

all the times I had 2 VM (Virtulbox) going and I started a rm -fr (on

the same error, I have also notices this is happening with xfs
partitions !

I have upgrade to the latest linux-image 2.6.29-5

Hi

I believe 442871 and 522065 and duplicates. Seems like in the 1.7 tree
the source uses sudo-ldap.conf

This and the change to nsswitch to by default not use sudoers: ldap files

I think its in line to keep using /etc/sudo-ldap.conf, same as nss + pam
have their own conf files

I upgraded to 1.7 from 1.6.xx and sudo failed would not contact ldap,
even crashed when I removed /etc/sudoers

I copied my /etc/ldap/ldap.conf to /etc/sudo-ldap.conf file and
everything started to work again

mark. IPv4 seems to be working okay. But I use radvd, ipv6 autoconfig to
  configure ipv6. icmpv6 router advertisements
don't seem to be making it to the card. I see noting then I run tcpdump

There have been many changes on the r8169 driver in 2.6.26 and the 2.6.26.x
 stable series.
Does the problem still occur with the current Lenny kernel?

seems to be fixed in .28

Can you try again with jhead for testing (or unstable)?

will do

I also note that the directory name you give is %m%d%H i.e. month, day

na actually what hour - webcam photo's done every 5 min for the last 2

There is a debconf question for updating the newsgroups, though you may
have set a priority low enough for it to not be displayed. This setting
is independant of the regular fetches since a newsgroup list is required
for Leafnode to be at all functional.

I understand it needs to be done for it to work, but I was hoping to
have the ability to schedule it at a later time (during my off peak
downloads), don't want to have to get up at 4 am to install this !

It would be nice to be able to install and schedule the first forced
fetch.

My group libuuid is in my ldap DB, install of package fails unless I
place it in my /etc/group file

Whilst checking the postinst file I also notice you check for user in
/etc/passwd - my user is kept in ldap, maybe a check against gentent
passwd would be better !

Bug#496165: [nscd] has a problem with case sensitivity - caches wrong result

2008-08-22 Thread Alex Samad
Package: nscd
Version: 2.7-13
Severity: normal

Hi

I have a userid alex, when I attempt to login to the machine (by
accident) with ssh [EMAIL PROTECTED], it failes, because there is no userid
ALEX. but when I login with ssh [EMAIL PROTECTED] it logins me in, but my
id is now ALEX. I can't sudo any more and basically can't do anything.
I have to to a nscd -i passwd to restore back to previous values.

I believe it has something todo with the fact I am using ldap and uid is
caseIgnoreMatch, But when I stop nscd and I attempt to login as
[EMAIL PROTECTED], I don't run into these problems!

Yes... I never tested that case, did I :-(

This patch should fix it. Are you able to compile a new nfs-utils

Initial test and it is now working. I will forward this onto the debian bug

Bug#492827: nfs-kernel-server: mac os x 10.5 client hangs when server started with --manage-gids

2008-07-29 Thread Alex Samad
Package: nfs-kernel-server
Version: 1:1.1.2-6
Severity: important

When ever I start my nfs server with --manage-gids, my mac os clients
hang, I have tried with secure and insecure, tcp udp.

I found when I removed the --manage-gids it all worked. My linux
clients work with out with out --manage-gids.

this is the export on the nas server
/exports/shared

-async,no_subtree_check,no_root_squash,insecure,mp=/exports/shared

192.168.8.0/22(rw)

this is the line I used to mount it on the mac mini I had done a sudo su

- before hand

mount -t nfs -o rw,async,rsize=32768,wsize=32768

nas.hme1.samad.com.au:/exports/shared /mounts/shared

I also did a

tcpdump -pni eth0 ether host 00:16:cb:b0:87:15 -s 9100 -w

nas.capture.dmp

after the mount I did

df -h (did not return)

ps -ef

dmesg | tail (lots of server not responding)

tcpdump -pni en0 not port 22 (did not see anything - could have let it

run longer!!)

mount (finished showed the nfs mount)

ls -l /mounts/shared/ ( did not come back)

umount -f /mounts/shared/ (did not come back)

Bug#486300: Info received (more failures different box/nic)

2008-07-14 Thread Alex Samad
Hi

I believe this bug can be closed now. I posted the question on
linux-kernel mailing list. A reply came back about mtu issues.

Seems like I had 2 problems
net.ipv4.tcp_rmem = 409687380   2097152
in my sysctl.conf, a hang over from long ago

and my mtu was set wrongly the route information was different from the
ip li information

I had

ip r a 192.168.11.10/32 dev eth0 mtu 9100
ip li set eth0 mtu 6144

since clearing these up I haven't had any problems, I was able to
previously reproduce the probem by coping over a 2G file

Bug#488475: linux-image-2.6.25-2-amd64: r8196 driver having problems with GA-MA78GM-S2H motherboard

2008-06-29 Thread Alex Samad
Package: linux-image-2.6.25-2-amd64

I recently bought a gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H motherboard, comes with a Realtek
8111C chip nic.

I have installed debian (amd64) and I notice when I use ifconfig

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:1f:d0:59:14:a1

there is a large amount of dropped, I have checked this on a newly booted
machine and the number seems to be in the 1B
mark. IPv4 seems to be working okay. But I use radvd, ipv6 autoconfig to
configure ipv6. icmpv6 router advertisements
don't seem to be making it to the card. I see noting then I run tcpdump

Hi

I had thought I had replied already.

I have hand crafted ldap.conf and /etc/default/slapd, but every time i
upgrade the packages these files are overridden

No response from submitter to request for more information. I believe
openldap is working correctly here, and any problems must be a failure to
understand and appropriately answer the conffile prompts on upgrade.

Just did the upgrade from slapd 2.3.38-1+lenny1 - 2.4.7-5 and
 /etc/defaults/slapd and /etc/ldap/ldap.conf where overwritten. I had a
backup of these but a warning might have been good

As I said, these are dpkg conffiles, which are never overwritten without
explicit permission from the administrator. If yours are being overwritten
noninteractively, then you have a problem with your apt settings or
command-line arguments; this isn't something that can be fixed in the
 openldap package.
strange because with other packages I get asked if I want to overwrite
them.

Is there an option for the conf file to be managed by debconf for
openldap, like with xorg and exim. Maybe I set this in the beginning and
it things it is meant to manage them and thus keeps regenerating them.

Bug#486300: swapper: page allocation failure

2008-06-14 Thread Alex Samad
Package: linux-image-2.6.25-2-amd64
Version: 2.6.25-4
Severity: normal

Hi

I seem to be having this problem since kernel 2.6.20, previously when I logged
it I had a tainted kernel. Since then I have removed nvidia, truecrypt and
vmware.

I have 2 very similar machines, both amd64 both shuttle sff boxs. Different
models and motherboards. I think it has something to do with the forcedeth
driver.

I have attaced a edited syslog and a dmesg capture files.

Basicially I was scp to the machine and it came up with these errors, not it is
also bittorrenting at the same time. But I have seen these errors on my other
machine which doesn't bit totternt.

This is actually with kqemu module, as -kernel-kqemu is used. You have
to use -no-kqemu to disable it.

seems to be working (got past the place i got stuck before)

I had meant to say that I tried it with the -kernel-kqemu and with out
the option. But I did not try it with -no-kqemu

kqemu doesn't work very well with 64-bit guests, and definitely doesn't
work with 64-bit guests using -kernel-kqemu. Please retry without
 -kernel-kqemu.

Bug#465170: [Pkg-openldap-devel] Bug#465170: Still no change

2008-06-05 Thread Alex Samad
Hi Russ

I have taken a short cut, downloaded the source files and changed
debian/control to create ldap-utils=openssl
debian/configure.options changed it to compile against openssl

build the package and installed seems to work fine (as before).

Hope you find the time to fix this in before the next release.

thanks

Currently no one in the Debian OpenLDAP maintenance team has much time to
work on the package at all, unfortunately including this bug. :/

GnuTLS upstream may be willing to help with this, and we'll try to
incorporate patches if you can figure out, or find others who can figure
out, what the source of the problem is.

Failing that, I'm going to try to at least package 2.4.10 before lenny, as
the bare minimum of work that OpenLDAP needs, and I'll try to look at
other bugs, but I can't promise much. We badly need more resources
 working on the OpenLDAP packages.

Bug#465170: Still no change

2008-05-24 Thread Alex Samad
Hi

I was wondering if this is going to be looked at. with the move to perl
5.10 and it associated dependencies, one of them indirectly being
ldap-utils, mean a reliance on the gnutls libraries and thus no access
to encrypted private keys

Bug#480959: splashy doesn't allow you to enter LUKS password at boot up

2008-05-20 Thread Alex Samad

The splash_user_input() API in /lib/init/splash-functions-base is
supposed to be able to handle this. Is the process asking for a
password using it? Is it implemented in splashy?

I did a fresh install of debian using an encrypted file system, during
the boot up sequence it asks for a LUKS password. when I run splashy it
1) doesn't show any info on the graphical screen, it stop and doesn't
prompt for a LUKS password. I have to esc out and goto VT2 to enter the
password. Seems like whatever I have type when splashy is up doesn't
get passed through properly, the cr seems to work, because when I
esc back to text i have a few lines showing enter has been pressed
because I have a few failed password attempts. once I have entered the
LUKS password, it returns to splashy and then prompts me for my
hibernation password which works okay, it just seems to be the
interface to the unlocking of the encrypted filesystem that is broken

Bug#477948: multitail: squid cache.log file store date as date not epoch

2008-04-25 Thread Alex Samad
Package: multitail
Version: 5.2.1-2
Severity: normal

whilst viewing squid cache.log file I noticed that multitail tries to
chnage the date fro epoch to date. cache.log already has the store
store as the first entry. epochtodate is still needed for access.log +
store.log.

suggest have another class for squidepoch that handles access.log* and
store.log*

one other problem is the colour scheme is wrong for cache.log, date is
stored as 2008/04/26 06:32:42 not Apr 26 06:32:42 2008.654 which caused
the colour highlighting to be out

my user is in LDAP not in passwd or group

the string wrong password is in unix_auth.c line 329 instead of
sending a PAM_ERR i think it should be sending a user_unknown which I
ignore with

can you confirm if this the same error or a new one

Starting nslcd before slapd can be done but is generally not a good idea
because it will slow down the boot process due to problems connecting to
the LDAP server. If nslcd knows that the LDAP server is down this could
also cause problems for subsequent lookups in a certain time period
until nslcd is aware that the LDAP server is available again.

This means that sequence 19 may cause problems and 20 currently causes
 problems for exim.

yep, I have moved slapd done to 18, 19 for nslcd.

I am in the process of rethinking/rewriting the reconnect logic in
nss-ldapd which could make it easier to start earlier.
If i might suggest the ability to add a weight to each uri thus if would
be possible to priorities slapd servers

the code, I guess at that point you already have the dn, it should be
a simple as search for ((dn=cached dn)(objectclass=value you are
looking for)), if you get back 1 object (or more ??) then true else
  false

It starts a full new search for an attribute lookup which is a bit ugly.
Also, the added value of this is close to zero because if you don't
allow lookups of objectClass you're bound to not allow lookups of
userPassword (the only reason the objectClass is queried). Since the
strange I don't allow allow access to userPassword.

The way that I was getting this error when I was trying to enumerate
through the group a user id had

id
id -G

id user

would give different results.

warning is gone now I would leave it at that (unless you can come with
 good arguments).

No really good arguments apart from the fact that you need read access
to objectclass. I haven't checked if there is a possibility that a
userid could change objectclasses whilst still being cached by the
niss-ldap code.

By the way, is there any specific reason why you don't want to allow
lookups of objectClass of any entries?

gives you access to which groups are available, for example you could
find out all the different group names that are available

I don't understand this. Also this is what NSS does with 'getent group'.
If you use objectClass for some sort of ACLs I could imagine something
 though.
Some site where I have been to dissallow access to the objectClass
attribute and they have sited security as the reason, no reason to give
every access to what groups are available. Before changing over to
nss-ldap I did not have a problem with this. Seems reasonable. My
current solution is to limit it to the proxy account.

The only reason (as pointed out above) not to do a ldapsearch and use
the result to test if it exists, is to save on the overhead of the ldap
call.

I thought it did a search based on objectClass=posixgroup and then read
the cn value back, which doesn't mean it needs read access to
objectclass

seems a bit silly all this packages are getting held up by the widget

The reason that nss-ldapd does a lookup for the objectClass for each

yep understood that.

In any case exposing password hashes through NSS is a bad idea and not

Anyway, I've removed the warning message in svn and it shouldn't fill up

nss-ldapd should be a drop-in replacement for nss_ldap in most
situations. If you install the package it should automatically pick up
the configuration options from nss_ldap as defaults.

There are a number of differences from nss_ldap:
 - different architecture (running deamon to do all lookups)
 - configuration file syntax is slightly different and does not silently
   ignore unrecognised options

Also, nss-ldapd is missing some features:
 - no attribute defaults and overrides
 - SSL/TLS support is not thoroughly tested (starttls is reported to not
   work)
 - no support for nested groups
 - SASL and Kerberos configuration is untested
 - rootbinddn/rootbindpw support is disabled
Hi Arthur

sent you a reply via email, not sure if this is the venue to discuss
this.

basically was wondering where is the best place to discus libnss-ldapd,
should I just raise bug reports ?

for example I had an issue with

myldap_has_objectclass(): myldap_get_values() returned NULL

which tracked down to myldap_has_objectclass in myldap.c and it uses a
search of the attributes received from the initial search, instead of
doing another lookup (less expensive), but I don't allow reads of
objectlass, I do allow search ( I have since changed)

Seems like libnss-ldapd checks for object class by reading a ldapobject

you can search. This causes this error to appear in my syslog numerious

Hi

I think I have been having similair problems caused by libnss-ldap,

~altab.

I noted the last good version of libnss-ldap was 258-1, think this was

I have also been experiencing the above problem with group names and the

Arthur, is there anything missing in libnss-ldapd, that is in

Bug#466610: bash: crash on tab completion of user name

2008-02-19 Thread Alex Samad
Package: bash
Version: 3.1dfsg-9
Severity: normal

Hi

I am having problems when I try and tab expand usernames, bash crashes

When i try this
ls ~altab
malloc: unknown:0: assertion botched
free: start and end chunk sizes differ
last command: ls -l

I believe it has something to do with libnss-ldap, I added some debuging
printf's around a build static-bash, specifically in
rl_username_completion_function.

it seems to crash when asking for the next record and that next record
is an ldap entry. I am raising the bugreport against bash, because with
zsh or getent passwd I do not see any problems. The last good version
of libnss-ldap i had was 258-1, all versions past that I have seen this
problem, again only in bash.

alex
