Bug#629874: fusecompress: Unable to open files created with older version
Hi Sorry, was in a rush, but I thought it might have been grave, as it could potential lead to a loss of all the data that has been compressed. I have a directory that I fusecomress which I use as a backup location. It has been working fine, until I install 2.6-4 at which point all the files that were compressed came up with io error... rolled back to the previous version and it all came back to working again. I will try the next one past 2.6-4 Thanks Alex -Original Message- From: Ritesh Raj Sarraf [mailto:r...@researchut.com] Sent: Thursday, 9 June 2011 6:23 PM To: Alex Samad; 629...@bugs.debian.org Subject: Re: Bug#629874: fusecompress: Unable to open files created with older version severity 629874 normal tag 629874 +moreinfo thanks Wow Alex... Bug#588969: [Pkg-openldap-devel] Bug#588969: slapd 2.4.23-1 fails to start with libdb4.8 4.8.26-1
Hi Sorry apologies, very light on the information. I did an upgrade of slapd and when slapd went to start there were errors could not start expecting version xxx and found version . At that point I guessed it was the libdb package needed to be brought into line with slapd. Once I loaded that it started - I had some other problems but did not investigate any further. Hi Thanks for the explanations Alex On Wed, Feb 03, 2010 at 12:08:15PM +0100, JCF Ploemen wrote: 1. Those release candidates are quickly moving targets; internal release testers are already at rc5 right now with rc6 likely within days, so it seems to make more sense to wait for the final. 2. The 0.5 release needs python-cherrypy3 3.2, afaik that hasn't been released yet. Upstream releases include a convenience copy of cherrypy svn. Obviously, that can't be used in Debian. Work for 0.5 on the sabnzbdplus package is mostly done though, on Ubuntu it's available via https://launchpad.net/~jcfp/+archive/ppa -- The truth about a woman often lasts longer than the woman is true. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#567099: nslcd complain when there are multiple cn's in a record

I was wondering if maybe the best way to handle this is to either take the cn from the DN, or two create multiple records one for each cn ? The problem with returning multiple records is that this will confuse some applications (it is known to confuse Glibc's nscd). Also, in the end the NSS part will only return one entry for direct name lookups (e.g. getent passwd alex will only return one row). Yeah I thought as much For some object classes nslcd already looks at the DN to see the preferred name (e.g. hostnames, the other entries are taken as aliases) but for usernames I think this will only cause confusion. By default nslcd only uses the cn attribute if the gecos attribute isn't set (and uses the first attribute value it finds). the order though is arbitrary but I guess that the best that can be done What is on the TODO list is to implement rate-limiting for the above messages. Something like only log a certain complaint on a certain DN once in 15 minutes. This however needs some more thought because for a system with a lot of problematic entries this would result in a lot of log messages anyway. or maybe a flag to turn it off ? Anyway, thanks for your email and thanks for using nss-pam-ldapd. cool package - better than the other one :) -- BOFH excuse #85: Windows 95 undocumented feature signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Package: nscd Version: 2.7-13 Severity: normal Hi I have a userid alex, when I attempt to login to the machine (by accident) with ssh [EMAIL PROTECTED], it failes, because there is no userid ALEX. but when I login with ssh [EMAIL PROTECTED] it logins me in, but my id is now ALEX. I can't sudo any more and basically can't do anything. I have to to a nscd -i passwd to restore back to previous values. I believe it has something todo with the fact I am using ldap and uid is caseIgnoreMatch, But when I stop nscd and I attempt to login as [EMAIL PROTECTED], I don't run into these problems! If yours are being overwritten noninteractively, then you have a problem with your apt settings or command-line arguments; this isn't something that can be fixed in the openldap package. strange because with other packages I get asked if I want to overwrite them. Is there an option for the conf file to be managed by debconf for openldap, like with xorg and exim. Maybe I set this in the beginning and it things it is meant to manage them and thus keeps regenerating them. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Failing that, I'm going to try to at least package 2.4.10 before lenny, as the bare minimum of work that OpenLDAP needs, and I'll try to look at other bugs, but I can't promise much. Hi I was wondering if this is going to be looked at. with the move to perl 5.10 and it associated dependencies, one of them indirectly being ldap-utils, mean a reliance on the gnutls libraries and thus no access to encrypted private keys Alex signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#480959: splashy doesn't allow you to enter LUKS password at boot up
On Tue, May 20, 2008 at 09:38:41AM +0200, Petter Reinholdtsen wrote: The splash_user_input() API in /lib/init/splash-functions-base is supposed to be able to handle this. Is the process asking for a password using it? Is it implemented in splashy? I did a fresh install of debian using an encrypted file system, during the boot up sequence it asks for a LUKS password. when I run splashy it 1) doesn't show any info on the graphical screen, it stop and doesn't prompt for a LUKS password. I have to esc out and goto VT2 to enter the password. Seems like whatever I have type when splashy is up doesn't get passed through properly, the cr seems to work, because when I esc back to text i have a few lines showing enter has been pressed because I have a few failed password attempts. once I have entered the LUKS password, it returns to splashy and then prompts me for my hibernation password which works okay, it just seems to be the interface to the unlocking of the encrypted filesystem that is broken alex Happy hacking, -- Petter Reinholdtsen -- I strongly believe what we're doing is the right thing. Bug#472872: myldap_has_objectclass(): myldap_get_values() returned NULL in syslog

Also, the added value of this is close to zero because if you don't allow lookups of objectClass you're bound to not allow lookups of userPassword (the only reason the objectClass is queried). Since the strange I don't allow allow access to userPassword. The way that I was getting this error when I was trying to enumerate through the group a user id had id id -G id user would give different results. warning is gone now I would leave it at that (unless you can come with good arguments). No really good arguments apart from the fact that you need read access to objectclass. I haven't checked if there is a possibility that a userid could change objectclasses whilst still being cached by the niss-ldap code. By the way, is there any specific reason why you don't want to allow lookups of objectClass of any entries? gives you access to which groups are available, for example you could find out all the different group names that are available I don't understand this. Also this is what NSS does with 'getent group'. If you use objectClass for some sort of ACLs I could imagine something though. Some site where I have been to dissallow access to the objectClass attribute and they have sited security as the reason, no reason to give every access to what groups are available. Before changing over to nss-ldap I did not have a problem with this. Seems reasonable. My current solution is to limit it to the proxy account. The only reason (as pointed out above) not to do a ldapsearch and use the result to test if it exists, is to save on the overhead of the ldap call. I thought it did a search based on objectClass=posixgroup and then read the cn value back, which doesn't mean it needs read access to objectclass -- -- arthur - [EMAIL PROTECTED] - http://people.debian.org/~adejong -- -- Life is a sexually transmitted disease. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

The code is in myldap_has_objectclass in myldap.c The reason that nss-ldapd does a lookup for the objectClass for each user entry is to not return a password information if it is of type shadowAccount (it tries to return it with shadow instead). yep understood that. In any case exposing password hashes through NSS is a bad idea and not really needed for anything with pam_ldap. Anyway, I've removed the warning message in svn and it shouldn't fill up your logs with the next release. (the warning message did not really add much to the functionality) I would presume a change to doing a ldapsearch and tresting for a positive result would be the solution (and I presume this is a lot more expensive than checking the attributes array) That would be a solution but not something I would want to implement. If you install the package it should automatically pick up the configuration options from nss_ldap as defaults. There are a number of differences from nss_ldap: - different architecture (running deamon to do all lookups) - configuration file syntax is slightly different and does not silently ignore unrecognised options Also, nss-ldapd is missing some features: - no attribute defaults and overrides - SSL/TLS support is not thoroughly tested (starttls is reported to not work) - no support for nested groups - SASL and Kerberos configuration is untested - rootbinddn/rootbindpw support is disabled Hi Arthur sent you a reply via email, not sure if this is the venue to discuss this. basically was wondering where is the best place to discus libnss-ldapd, should I just raise bug reports ? for example I had an issue with myldap_has_objectclass(): myldap_get_values() returned NULL which tracked down to myldap_has_objectclass in myldap.c and it uses a search of the attributes received from the initial search, instead of doing another lookup (less expensive), but I don't allow reads of objectlass, I do allow search ( I have since changed) -- -- arthur - [EMAIL PROTECTED] - http://people.debian.org/~adejong -- -- Border relations between Canada and Mexico have never been better. - George W.
