HI I noticed that this has not been addressed fully yet and several months have
passed.

For instance these pages refer to Apache projects with using the word Apache
and there are no trademark symbols or attribution.
https://prestodb.io/docs/current/connector.html
https://prestodb.io/docs/current/connector/accumulo.html
https://prestodb.io/docs/current/connector/cassandra.html
https://prestodb.io/docs/current/connector/druid.html
https://prestodb.io/docs/current/connector/hive.html
https://prestodb.io/docs/current/connector/iceberg.html
https://prestodb.io/docs/current/connector/kafka.html

There a similar issue with the projects release notes - for example:
https://prestodb.io/docs/current/release/release-0.264.html

And also this page:
https://prestodb.io/docs/current/migration/from-hive.html

There are also the same issues with the readme here:
https://github.com/prestodb/presto

And similar issues with the website:
https://prestodb.io e.g "Presto allows querying data where it lives, including
Hive, Cassandra, relational databases or even proprietary data stores”
https://prestodb.io/blog/2021/10/26/Scaling-with-Presto-on-Spark

There are likely other issues I was just taking a casual looks.

Kind Regards,
Justin

Hello,
The action item on the Apache Pinot team was to inform the Presto foundation to
fix their website references to Apache Pinot to state the full project name.
This has since been addressed.
The Presto project is outside of ASF and there are no Presto folks in this
thread.

Hope this clarifies.

Re: [DISCUSS] Graduate Apache Pinot (Incubating) as a TLP

2021-06-27 Thread Mark Thomas

Hi,

Can someone explain to me what branding issues on the Presto website
have to do with the graduation of Apache Pinot?

Separately, I will note that this page:

https://prestodb.io/docs/current/connector.html

referenced earlier in this thread still has a large number of issues.
Specifically, the first and most prominent (they may or may not be the
same) occurrence of an ASF project name should appear in full.
Therefore, I'd expect to see "Apache Accumulo", "Apache Cassandra" etc.

Since it appears that there are folks from Presto on this thread, I'm
going to assume that this is sufficient to make Presto aware that these
issues need to be fixed.

Thanks,

Hi,

Thanks for taking action on this.

Still one things concerns me, the discussion of removal of ThirdEye is unusual
as it happened offlist and it seems it was only brought back to the list after
a decision was made. For decisions like this, all of the PMC need to be
informed and the decision needs to be made in the open on the list. The source
of the issue to me seems to be commit rights and I think a better way of
resolving this would have been considering lowering the commit bar. Was that
considered in the off list discussions?

Hello

Thank you Justin, Felix & Dave for your help and support with the
graduation process.

We have fixed the Apache Pinot branding issue in Presto [1]. We have also
fixed the footer of the main page [6] to say “Integrations” for
Presto/ThirdEye/Superset, and not “Components” as previously stated.

The ThirdEye project was discussed [2] and moved out of the Apache Pinot

We added disclaimers in the footer for pages referring to Presto and

The ThirdEye documentation at [6] is owned by the ThirdEye project. We have
also notified the ThirdEye team to fix their documentation about installing
ThirdEye from Apache Pinot, the “Edit on Github” link broken, and fix any
branding/trademark issues referring to Apache Pinot.

Hi,

Thanks for that information.

But it is up to the project to make sure that its brand and trademarks are
correctly used by 3rd parties, that includes projects you don’t own. The other
Apache projects mentioned need to do the same.

> Confirmed that documentation on ThirdEye is still correct [8].

There is still some issues here, for instance click on “edit in GitHub” takes
you to [1] There are still branding and trademark issues on [2]. This page has
incorrect instructions on installing ThirdEye from the Pinot repo [3]. This
still exists. [4] I’m still a little unclear on the licensing of ThirdEye, can
you please explain that? Also can you give some detail on it history and why
has it recently been moved out of the project [5]?

Look at the ThirdEye link under components in the footer of the home page.

Hello Justin, Sheng & IPMC
Thanks so much for reviewing our proposal and your questions and
suggestions. Please find our response below, and let us know if you have
any questions, and suggest next steps.

Decision process for PMC: We follow discussion + voting protocol for adding
new PMCs. We would like to keep the process of adding new PMC members
separate from the graduation process, and go over the discussion and voting
process on a case by case basis.

VP candidate: The VP candidate was proposed aspart of the voting process
for graduation [1], and was accepted in the voting.

We checked with Jackie on him not being part of private@, and found that he
had issues in the past subscribing to the list. He is one of the top
contributors for the project [2], and is now subscribed to the private@
mailing list.

Jihao Zhang confirms that they have unsubscribed from the private@ mailing
list.

Presto references to Pinot have been replaced by Apache Pinot [3]. We do
not own the Presto project, so cannot control other references such as
Cassandra, etc.

Licensing issues have been resolved [4] [5].

Added disclaimer in the main page to indicate that Presto and TE are not
part of ASF[6][7]

Confirmed that documentation on ThirdEye is still correct [8].

There are no links pointing to [9] from the main page. The correct link
should be [10]. Is there a place where this link needs to be removed from?

Re: [DISCUSS] Graduate Apache Pinot (Incubating) as a TLP

2021-06-12 Thread Justin Mclean
Hi,

Thanks for putting that information together, everything look goods, but I have
a couple of queries.

From your PMC I noticed one person Jackie Jiang has not sign up to the private
list and has not sent a single mail to the dev or private lists. Have you asked
them if they want to be on the PMC? It might also be a good idea to discuss
adding some of your existing committers to the new PMC as well. They can be
added in teh normal way after graduation as well. I also noticed there one
person who perhaps should not be subscribed to your private list (Jihao Zhang).

I also notice that you have links on the front page to seem to point to non-ASF
software? Presto and ThirdEye. ThirdEye from memory is not compatible with the
Apache license so I’m not sure that the project should be promoting this on
their front page and where they are include big disclaimers warning people
about this. Is this documentation still correct, [6] I notice this no longer
works [7]

The Presto documentation looks to have a few branding issue that need to be
corrected [3]. Is the PPMC aware of this and doing something about it? I can
see some other branding issues with the presto webpage [4][5] (and other pages)
and Apache projects with Pinot and Hive, Hadoop, Cassandra, Spark, Kafka and
Druid. There might be others.

Has this license issue been fixed? [1] I can see the issue is still open [2]

Thanks,
Justin

Hi Pinot community

Glad and congrats you made this.
I did a review of your discussion thread, but I can't find the
decision process about PMC and V.P. candidates.
Could you share more context about this?
I can see you have a diversity committer list, should they be
considered as a PMC member during graduation?
