I am not sure what the 2.4 in your case and 2.8 in my case actually refer
to. The wiki says they are related to GnuCash versions but not obviously
the version which is running.

Currently I only have a Linux page up and running but I can build the others

diagrams. I am intending readers to go to the text explanations for more
detail where required.

correctly so it pays to select that explicitly in the date format field. If
the import data has column headers set the skip to 1.

nly a longer term target.
Someone has to implement it. GnuCash is not going to get there overnight,
but at least then we have some agreed general direction to move towards. But
for the moment we are going to have to live with some sort of workaround.

When you are importing a multiline exported transaction you should see a
multiline checkbox at the bottom of the first window. You may get multiline
import to work if you select this as it tells GnuCash to look for following
lines which are part of a single transaction.

Transactions from Active Window to export a dummy transaction. Bob Fewel is
already working on a fix for this.
I normally setup a test datafile to work with while exploring this rather
than use a real datafile so that other transactions don't complicate life.

orporated this becomes of limited usefulness wrt
the ability to transfer reports.
The report configuration should not contain the information directly and
only have pointers to locate the information which is contained only in the
book. Is that not the case?

also been used for Ubuntu 18.10 as well.
Check the Guile library version you have installed. The Cmake command should
be checking this and stopping if the required library versions are not
present.

customising the gtk-3 setup for GnuCash so I wouldn't bother with the GTK

You may also come across format specifiers like "%9.2f" which instructs the
print command to print a floating point number rounded to 2 decimal places
in a field 9 numbers wide, e.g. 123456.78 .
in short if come across format specifiers you should leave them in place and
probably be considered commercially sensitive information and at a personal
level what banks/service companies etc you deal with might be a possible
problem if it is in the public domain.
