Did you set the pages number to desired 4 pages? It's located at the
top left corner on Xsane main windows, and has several paper sheets
stacked as the icon on the left.
The question could be seen as silly, but sometimes could be the reason.

SOCKET type (first argument, fd, for most of the above
mentioned functions) is unsigned, which means that condition 'less
than 0' is meaningless for it and comparision will always be true.
Perhaps, it would be cleaner to use a macro there, but I'm not sure. Any ideas?
