That's so cool, Mike, congrats! It makes so much sense for advertisers to get involved with and support those shows; they can reach audiences on a much more personal level, as many people on this list have shown. If Walt likes watching videoblogs, and found it easy to find some favorites on Blip.tv, the big audiences can't be far behind. [videoblogging] Tracking videobloggingweek2007 videos
Steve Garfield and I were just discussing the best way to track the videos produced for videoblogging week 2007. Last year the problem with technorati was that it took forever for the posts to actually go through their system and be collected. adding tags is the logical idea but we need the tagging system to grab the media, repackage it into a feed and make sure that it is up to date at least to the hour. any other ideas? any services/sites already do this? we could have a wiki and have people add their posts there, but i doubt everyone would do it and it would be nice to get an RSS feed out of it all. any developers wanna new project? -- Josh Leo www.JoshLeo.com www.WanderingWestMichigan.com [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Although, I think technorati tagging has improved since last year. At least, I know it was used successfully at a conference last fall (Internet Librarian 2006), which involved enough tagging of blogs, photos, and such that the tag made the top of technorati and flickr's most popular lists. So just the normal tagging might work fine. david On 08 Mar 2007 10:50:43 -0800, sull [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: could also use the blip upload api instead of sharing blip account credentials. btw. Re: [videoblogging] Re: I'm a WHATmaster? Lonelygirl15 Creators Appear at ARGfest-o-Con
would love to ;) always been an interest of mine since AI. afterall, one of my few efforts in organized vlogging was node666. :) i also laugh when i think back to 1994 when i came up with an idea called webracer which would lead people on a path to find one single web page on the net the end page. along the way, you had to solve crossword puzzles (using a client-side crowsswords app i found) in order to proceed by getting hints or direct links to a new page... or 2 links where you pick one to follow like a maze path. the crosswords in each puzzle would all be embedded in other sponsor pages, enticing users to visit and sift through these sites to more quickly solve the puzzles. adding in banner ads and all that along the way i thought it was pretty genius. i know i have an old college notebook around with babble on this webracer idea somewhere LOL. was pissed off that webracer.com was taken by some racecar fanatic at the time. needed to pay the crossword puzzle app people money to synch it up to the project etc... needed to build the maze of sites and get sponsors on board and so on. it never happened beyond some very rough examples and scribblings throughout my psychology101 notebook. hey it was college days and any number of things ended up distracting me away from the idea. (can you guess?). looking back it was likely to fail anyways because it was too ahead of its time. i think. maybe if i pitched it perfectly and gotten a few businesses on board... it would roll. but what about players? and a prize? and i remember researching legal issues back then with things like lotteries and prizes (yes i was researching it all the way through instead of studying for tests). so i needed lawyers and contracts written up. i mean, i was going to casinos to try and make money for rent at the time. so... yeah. discouraging. but i could have tried harder. and drank less. wasnt really an ARG... i didnt have a storyline or anything... just a maze, puzzles, sponsors/ads and a mysterious end page. 1 of millions of web pages... somewhere out there. and a mystery prize. ARGish! ok, someone go try my idea today. then paypal me if it works ;) sull On 08 Mar 2007 12:41:25 -0800, Eric Rice [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Oo, sull, you're paying attention to the ARG space? [videoblogging] Re: blog vs youtube myspace
I am surprised that no one seems to have encountered this notice while exploring videos on YouTube. I sent it to myself as an email: Subject: YOU TUBE DISCOURAGES COMMENTS!! You have recently posted several comments. Please wait some time before posting another. I haven't counted the number of comments or the number of comments in a certazin period of time that brings up that notice. I try to leave a rating and a comment on vlogs that show a lot of work ow which contain something really unique. Sometimes, I'll find a remarkable vlog with only one or two tags that has not gotten the number of views I feel it deserves---so, I'll suggest they add more tage words to increasze their viewership. There is a lot of burn out by vloggers. I go through 'dry' periods myself. You knock yourself out to produce something exciting and you get few views and limited feedback. Yes, the level of discussion in most vlogs is primitive. However, I feel morally oblidged to encourage someone I feel has tried hard shown some skills but has otherwise not succeeded over-all. When I've done this, I've frequently gotten very thankful responses from the person making the vlog. That's my idea of what this video-blogging community thing is all about. It is an artist-to-artist or videographer-to-videographer personal thing. I've been surprised at how unwilling some people (even videobloggers) are to make comments. Even in giving ratings, they are demanding and stingey. Most of the ratings I give are 5*'s. Sometimes, I do this because the vlog might have ten ratings with an average of only 3 stars which I feel is unfairly low. Only when a video is ugly and/or violent will I use the hammer of a one-star rating. The best way to build community and encourage people who show promise is to take the time and trouble to give them a pat on the back. Randolfe (Randy) Wicker Hoboken, NJ --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, Mike Meiser [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Interesting observation. I don't notice any change. But then again I always got about two comments a week. :) But I'd like to hear from a few vloggers who get more comments. Who are posting about the same amount of videos as they did a year or two ago. The community has changed, it's gotten a lot bigger, I wonder if it's gotten less personal though. BTW, I still leave a couple comments a day too. Maybe a few less come to think of it. I still watch about... 20 - 30 videos a day. Probably a few less then I used to, but I'm far more selective. probably skim about 80 vlog posts (the text) or more a day, but I don't watch them all obviously. Peace, -Mike mefeedia.com mmeiser.com/blog On 3/6/07, Rupert [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Elbows's link to the old discussion on YouTube brought up something I've wanted to ask for a while. It seems to me, looking around a lot of vlogs, that there are less comments than there used to be. Is this a recognised thing in the blogosphere or vlogosphere? Have other people noticed the same thing? Or am I wrong? I would imagine that a huge attraction for people on YouTube is that there's so much commenting. Even if some of the comments are not very nice. I watch most vlogs while travelling on the Tube or train, so I don't always remember to comment. I'm trying hard to get better at it. Have aggregators and mobile devices reduced interaction? I'm sure you've heard the phrase, If the only tool you have in your kit is a hammer, every problem you encounter starts to look like a nail. As someone spending a great deal of time thinking about how to build social tools, I'm perhaps all too quick to criticize YouTube's hammer (in this case, their comment feature). In doing this, I'm not about to criticize content creators who use YouTube for what it does best: getting video up on the web and available to a massively large potential audience. I put things on YouTube when that is my goal. When I want to have more control over my files, and need to use the content in many different ways, I've found blip.tv to be an indispensible tool. But if I want to have conversations using video content as the starting point, I wouldn't think of YouTube. This is partly because of an admittedly snobbish opinion of the quality of conversation taking place there, but it's also because I don't think the commenting system they have deployed is good for much else beyond the quick drive-by style comment. This snobbery does not extend to content creators, though. And while I'm making admissions, I will additionally confess that I am wildly idealistic about how our collective community of content creators can mold and shape
[videoblogging] Finding videos that interest you???
Some people seem to think there is no problem finding video content that interests you. You can search via tags, follow similar Videos shown next to the one you are viewing, explore all of a vloggers postings or all their postings in a certain series they've created. And there are always videos suggested by friends. I had an interesting experience on YouTube while looking for Asian music videos. The tag of Asian Music Videos didn't turn up much on YouTube. However, using individual star's names brought up hundreds or thousands, mostly multiples. I've always had a low opinion of fan videos. I thought they were silly things. By accident, I stumbled over some that were actually creative and amusing. Then I used the search term fan videos on YouTube. There were slightly over 10,000 fan videos. However, in the mix were video medleys which were comprised os snippets of up to twenty different performers which were listed by name and song in many of the details. That discovery, using 'fan videos' to explore genres of music I liked turned out to be the most effective search tool I had ever uncovered. I wonder if others have stumbled across unique ways to find similar composite-information video sources?

I don't want to sound a sour note here. However, I think the idea of a video per day during videoblogging week has a serious flaw. I participated a year or two ago.Being retired and having time on my hands enabled me to get several videos ready before the week started. Yes, I posted seven videos in seven days on the theme of vblogging dangerously. Actually, some of the videos I posted I've seriously considered taking down. At least one has been eliminated by YouTube for containing inappropriate material. I would suggest that the them for VlogWeek 2007 be My Best Vlogs. That would be a great opportunity for those of us who have 150 or more vlogs on the Internet to pick the 7 best we've done. I think that would make for a better testimonial to the collectivre power of vlogging than having people churing out a vlog a day, even a 30 second nothing vlog. [videoblogging] Re: blog vs youtube myspace
Randy, I'd love to have a copy of that email! Heh heh... And bless you for leaving comments. You warm my heart, since that's what we really try to be about. In fact, when considering how to rate content on CrowdAbout, we considered doing a thumbs up or down approach, or a 5-star ratings system, but in the end, none of it made us very happy. We felt a truer measure of engaging content would be the amount of conversation it generated. So videos that have a lot of posts and comments are higher in the popular search. Carter http://crowdabout.us --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, humancloner1997 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I am surprised that no one seems to have encountered this notice while exploring videos on YouTube. In doing this, I'm not about to criticize content creators who use YouTube for what it does best: getting video up on the web and available to a massively large potential audience. Check under System Preferences, and then Sharing. From there you should be able to share out your connection (i.e. if your connecting via ethernet, share out your wireless). HTH.
