To me this has been an interesting thread. However, it seems to me that the contradictory viewpoints aren't that complicated:

1.  Juan Atkins has been underappreciated.  Should get paid.

2. Corporate endorsement of a song, artist, or musical style is of questionable merit at best, beyond terms of payment.

Question:
If someone can explain to me how the connection between the growth of techno and automotive industry in detroit is informative in this case, or how any musical credibility is gained through corporate sponsorship, I would be glad to hear.

Not as if Mr Atkins has any issues of musical credibility.

actually it sounds to me like your beef is more with commercials than any
set style of music being used within them

Commercials are meant only to manipulate people to the company's will.
thats the whole idea.
i guess im one of those ignorant people that doesn't see how ford focus'
getting sold will destroy techno.
