This has nothing to do with 'tearing it up'... when you saw
him did he play punk-rock, reggae, rap, etc... ?

Ditto. I've heard john spin about 10x now and he's played
techno/house but that's the extent of it.

Maybe he only spins this way in Detroit? I've noticed many
of the detroit dj's play best in their hometown..

I heard him a few times but apparently i just had bad nights because 
what he bassicly did was playing boring tech-house and sometimes a 
techno track and sometimes something more house. No way he was anything 
close to what Shake did :)
