Raph,

Funny you mentioned the "lick and wipe" of the contacts. I do it, that's why I
mentioned the rust problem with the Ortos. Ya, I usually keep a can of contact
cleaner, except the damn can is never around when I need it!!

One other thing about Orts that ppl should consider is that the spacing on
the contacts is smaller than Stanton which usually results in poor contacts
in humid conditions which then in turn results in the "lick the contacts"
technique which will corrode BOTH the contacts on the head shell AND the
tone arm contacts. I regularly work on tech12s and this is a very, if not
the most, common problem I see with ppls turntables. Plus, tone arm is the
most expensive and time consuming part (short of the motor) to replace on
the Techics deck and I think the is a MAJOR design flaw in the Ortofons. I
recommend Stanton Groovemaster II's. Guitar Center has had them on special
for like 49.99 around here (Det) and they give an excellent blance of sound
and tracking (much better than trackmasters). I still use my groovemasters
that I bought ten years ago (gone thourgh 5 sets of replacments styli) and
have had no problems with them whatsoever.

My 2 cents
Raph

I'm still a Ortofon user, but the Stantons seem to be the better choice as
of late. They're cheaper, sound is richer and the contacts don't rust.
Yea, the sound could be argued, but for my ears at least, listening to them
side by side with the same piece of vinyl, I like the Stantons better.
Funny, about eight years ago when I compared the two... I liked the Ortofons
better.

My two cents,

Eric

this may be better directed to 313tk, but i figured some of you guys might
know...

i'm in the market for a new set of needles/carts and was looking at the
ortofons. however, their website sucks and i'm not able to find any good
reviews or product comparisons.

pro, nightclub e, nightclub s, broadcast.... anyone have experience with
more than one kind of these and can recommend one over another?

Thanks,
-j
