Hi Alex, dont know how much this will help your decision but I used to work in an IBM helpdesk for voicerecognition software and "buzzing" is not an uncommon thing in windows laptops (dont know anything about Macs). Its to do with packing so much kit into such a small package and using low quality soundcard as standard - you should be able to get a PCMCIA or USB soundcard to improve the sound quality (although I would ivestigate the options and performance first from others who may have experience)
