dont know how much this will help your decision but I
used to work in an IBM helpdesk for voicerecognition
software and "buzzing" is not an uncommon thing in
windows laptops (dont know anything about Macs). Its
to do with packing so much kit into such a small
package and using low quality soundcard as standard -
you should be able to get a PCMCIA or USB soundcard to
improve the sound quality (although I would ivestigate
the options and performance first from others who may
have experience)


my dell 8200 had a big prob with this (you could hear disk access and mouse movement!)

this new powerbook 12" has no probs in that area. and is one of the reasons i bought it.

please no OS war type follow ups to this please :).

bottom line for Ableton Live use tho would be an external audio interface (usb/firware/pcmcia) for lower latency and the ability to pre-listen to clips.
