Interesting concept. Would you apply the same thinking to a turntabalist? Does a live band need to put on a show if the music in itself is wholly sufficient. If you take it one step further then why bother with DJs at all? You may as well just play pre-recorded mix CDs in clubs, at least that way you can guarantee a flawless, perfectly mixed set of all the best music.
