Grew up being subjected to bad AM radio with
few bright spots (Depeche Mode's People Are People
and Human League's Don't You Want Me, Thomas
Dolby and a very few others) amidst the crap rawk.
Then stumbled on to CBC's Brave New Waves the
year it started airing and from there I spent every $
I had every time we went to the big city of Halifax (I
lived in a small town while growing up) on electronic/
industrial vinyl of every kind imaginable. Then when
I moved to Halifax in 1987 I continued buying every
electronic/industrial record I could stumble on (tastes
a bit refined by Brave New Waves at this point) and then
came that fateful day (as did with many others) when I bought
that seminal Techno: The New Dance Sound Of Detroit
compilation and I was instantly a techno fan. Thank goodness
for Virgin Records and 10Records or it might have taken
me longer to stumble onto it. Andrew
