There are definitely merchants with systems that do such things. eMusic is an example.

Ok, good to know that one. I'll look into it, even though I don't (and probably won't, at least for a while) own an ipod. The system I was after was a bit more general in nature, so that one's smart agent would be able to search and receive information/recommendations on music from a wider scale of systems (whole Interweb? ;), because I don't like the idea that I'm limited to use one system (or store or service provider) only.

Maybe there's a market niche here... :)
