Intuitive for whom?

i mean, plugging and unplugging 1/4" cables is not hard. nor is tuning
a guitar (they even make devices that will do it for you so all you
have to do is turn the pegs). replacing a drum head or something like
that is a little more difficult, but compared to what can go wrong
when a computer crashes or starts going on the fritz in general, its
all very simple.

I get your point (complexity), but the analogy is problematic because
you seem to be assuming far too much about how 'everyone' approaches
things, what knowledge base they have and how much complexity spoils the
soup (as if everyone os on an even keel here).
It really doesn't matter what argument you make...as long as you start
off by taking all of that for granted, the analogies will always be flawed.

i mean, in general people are not electrical and computer engineers
and programmers. so even the vast majority people who understand midi
dont REALLY understand whats going on, nor can they diagnose a problem
and fix it on the spot if its something beyond a simple driver screwup
or the like. ive seen many live electronic performances either
cancelled or severely limited due to technological problems, far more
than live music performances with instruments, and ive seen many times
more of those.
