I would really like to know what Final Scratch had to do with DE9 2, besides
being an influence on it (whatever that means).

in using final scratch more and more, richie has started re-editing, re-mixing, re-interpreting tracks since he can do so and play them out almost instantly. he's able to experiment with tracks, and customize them to a mood, venue, whatever. in doing so, he got the idea of going (conceptually speaking) deeper 'into' the tracks; getting nearer and nearer to the basic elements of each track and what made it work one way or another. hence, closer to the edit. final scratch was just an influence on the album, a way of thinking about the music... so that's what it means.
