liner notes.. heh  ;)
my comments were from a combination of conversations with him, articles i've read, and from video clips of the de9:ce & final scratch discussion/demo he did in new york not too long ago.

 in using final scratch more and more, richie has started re-editing,
 re-mixing, re-interpreting tracks since he can do so and play them
 out almost instantly. he's able to experiment with tracks, and
 customize them to a mood, venue, whatever. in doing so, he got the
 idea of going (conceptually speaking) deeper 'into' the tracks;
 getting nearer and nearer to the basic elements of each track and
 what made it work one way or another. hence, closer to the edit.
 final scratch was just an influence on the album, a way of thinking
 about the music... so that's what it means.
