Not all "critics" are necessarily that harsh, actually! I talk to DJs and
producers on the
daily who are far more judgemental and damning than I have ever been myself
as a writer. Mills actually doesn't actively court the media and when he
does he likes to talk to street papers and the like - lower profile
magazines that promote the music and the artist and not celebrity, if you
like.

I think if Jeff appears a little detached at times it is because frankly he
is quite shy rather than puffed up full of self-importance. He could make
much more money if he wanted to. Think about it. He does very few if any
remixes, tends to release most of his stuff on vinyl, etc. In the meantime
big name acts are nicking his sound. Even Leftfield (though I actually
respect them for what they represent as a mainstream act) admitted to me
that their hot new song Double Flash on Rhythm And Stealth owes much to his
style. Neil Barnes said
that Leftfield hope that their own fans will dig deeper and discover the
underground
techno of Jeff. I feel that Mills is a cult artist and not a pop star.

It's all good.
