A month or so ago, I helped a friend load the latest version of
ghostview onto her machine. It was so slick I couldn't believe it. It
installed itself with no problems at all. It did ask whether you want
it installed as the default handler for PS and PDF files. We said
yes, downloaded a PDF file with the browser, and it worked the first
time. We had an ABC program installed (some Windows version of
abc2ps, I think), and it sent a tune to ghostview correctly the first
time. I was impressed.
Of course, it's getting fairly standard for free software to work so
much better than commercial software. ;-)
