I don't understand as to why flaghoisting and disability is mixed up. there is no relations between the two, surely rights/accessibility for the disabled can be discussed in this group. But what has this group got to do flaghoisting? This is definitely off-topic. Anti-national elements are trying to highjack this group as well. The moderater may look into this. There could be disagreements/differences with the govt, but not against the country.

Subject: Re: [AI] Why the tricolor makes no sense to me.

When the MHRD or UGC have not done anything substantial to establish
equal opportunity cell or HEPSN cell for persons with special needs in
the Central universities, when these so-called guardians of
higher-education in India have hardly paid attention to the
implementation of 3 per cent reservation for the PWDs in educational
institutions, when the Central Government is not willing to obey even
the order of Supreme Court of India in fulfilling its responsibilities
to the PWDs in employment, why so much strain and stress is taken to
hoist flags in the central universities? You may take pride in
hoisting flags, But it makes no sense when the police forces are able
to beat-up the blind and disabled all over the country with
unquestionable authority and brutality. If you think Avinash is
getting emotional, feeling patriotic about the flag hoisting is more
an emotional cry! Patriotism can be truly proved only through our
commitment to the people, respect for all others and by fullfilling
our responsibilities, not just by hoisting flags.. Each action/event
in the public domain are inter-connected, it is hence not out of place
to indicate the lapses in our system while lot of energy is spent in
other issues which are apparently unimportant. True democracy must
give space for dissenting voices and ensure one's right to disagree...

I was able to see colours 12 years back, today I cant! Does this mean
that colours do not exist now?

by being blind you are exploring whole world but when it comes to
tricolor you are blind what kind of kiddish argument it is.

dear friends,
seems the topic is diverting away from accessibility. let us restrict
ourselves in this list to the topics being specified.

I agree to you what you just expressed. And I have no objection to
this recent command from the HRD Ministry. If they think hoisting flag
would inspire patriotic sentiments let it be hoisted. However teaching
distorted form of nationalism in connivance with the police and the
rampaging mobs is scary.

Hi Avinash,
I understand your feelings, however, I must say the truth doesn't
change just because we are unaware of it. Attempts are being made to
make the tricolor accessible to VI people, especially by some
organizations in Bangaluru. And we don't have to be too resistant if
things like hoisting national flag on buildings like educational
institutions etc are being planned. I always felt very proud when I
saw tricolor being hoisted in my school and college. Remember there
are other students also there apart from VI students. One more thing,
it is not allowed to hoist the national flag on our houses except on
some special occasions like independence day, republic day etc and
many organizations have been demanding to allow the ordinary people
this right.
I think we should focus our energies on bringing positive change to
the society and our own lives as well.
Best regards,
Sandeep

blind people in the country they're gonna spend huge sums in hoisting the flag atop of all central universities. It will not make any sense
to me. On a humorous note: I might even hold neighbouring country's
flag and hoist it flyhigh and shout India zindabad. Will I be then be
called anti-national?
