Hi all, credit where credit is due. As you may know, I have been continuously criticising Uber over the poor quality of service since several months now. And the biggest challenge is the drivers continuously talking on the phone without bothering about our request, which is particularly difficult for persons with disabilities as drivers may threatened to drop us in the middle of the road if we resist too much. Today also was no different as the driver was continuously talking on the phone. Then, for the first time, I ended up calling the safety helpline through the app. A gentleman immediately picked up and was very considerate on learning about my blindness. First suggested to call the driver, but then when I explained him that the Driver might become hostile and non-cooperative, he suggested that he would speak to the driver later on till then he would track my ride. But then he ended up calling the driver during the ride itself. The driver became a little scared on getting a call from Uber and stated that he would ensure that I am dropped safely. Not sure if he talk about the phone aspect because immediately after disconnecting the call, the driver took another phone call. Then again, I called the helpline, though another person picked up, he could relate to my case, and said that they will file a complaint with the driver. Probably the Driver might have got a sense of what was happening and became extremely quiet after that, and drop me properly by identifying the proper location. While I really do not know if Uber will do anything with the Driver, but I think he must have really got the message, and as you all know, drivers keep chatting around with each other, so the message will spread.
