--- Comment #48 from BW <b.weggenmann+ker...@gmail.com> 2011-02-06 15:37:01 ---
I'm currently running 2.6.36-gentoo-r3 and the shutdown occurs about once every
2-5 days. I tried with BIOS versions 301, 302, and 303 (inofficial) to no
avail.
With 2.6.37, I have the (subjective) impression that the shutdown occurs about
5 times as often (!), i.e. once a day or more, which is unacceptable for me. I
tried to switch back and forth from 2.6.36 to .37 several times and it seems to
support this impression (while it still might be just a coincidence as I, too,
haven't found anything that deterministically causes the bug to be triggered).
Can somebody else support or refute this on their systems?
Last kernel ver without this bug was 2.6.30 or .31 for me.

One funny reproducible thing I noticed is the following: After the shutdown,
when you turn the Laptop on again the fan keeps spinning at max speed for
several seconds (unrelated to loading of kernel acpi modules or anything, it
also stops after a few seconds e.g. when you enter the bios or wait at the grub
menu). However, if you unplug the power (and battery) before turning on the
machine, the fans run back at normal speed. So something 'remembers' the
falsely reported high temperature or fan speed. Maybe this helps to locate the
bug.
