Some non-expert advice? If it was me I would...

Use Skype. They've now introduced corporate accounts (read: more focus
on reliability) and I've heard of many users that do podcasts with
other users around the world.

Follow the instructions here to optimise the connection. E.g. ethernet
not wifi, few or no other applications running, testing first, port
forwarding if necessary.

Use built in video. 'lecture theatre size' actually just means a 800 x
600 pixel projection. In the age of YouTube compression, I think most
users are happy to overlook low-res video - especially if it's coming
from London and the audio quality is good.

Record with external hardware. Use a portable audio recorder to grab
the audio coming through, and a camera for photo/video documentation,
rather than relying on software, which impacts processor again. Many
podcasters run their audio through a couple simple filters like EQs or
compressors for better sound. More tips on that same link.

Cheers,
Luke
