Pugwash, Nova Scotia has a LUG now? :)

But seriously, Many LUGs, like other user
organisations, dont't have large piggy-banks to raid.

On the coporate side, though, it seems to be a
different story altogether. It may be that some of
the "Biggies" are trying to show the world how "more
user freindly than anyone else" they are. The Good
Corporate Citizen image counts when your not the
cheapest box on the shelf at $taples, I guess.

One case in point:

I had to buy a new CPU recently, and happened to buy a
shelf-demo HP with a pre-installed proprietary OS. I
took it home, installed my favorite distro (Mandrake)
and expected to get a letter from HP saying my waranty
was voided the second I opened up the e-mail.

Instead, I got just the opposite.

-- extra HOWTO's
-- a list of their Linux-freindly products larger than
the Simpson's Christmas Wishbook
-- entraining offers for *Serious* Operators that
prepared you for *Guess_Who's* :) exams.
--/etc files
--links to varous Linux organisations.

(I didn't know at the time they were already
sponsoring a number of Linux organisations.)

Not all corporations will sponsor us; just the ones
that will survive. Damn straight we should be seeking
the sponsorship of these institutions ... they're
sponsoring us already! They're trying to make an
honest dollar and know a Good Thing when they see it.
