Edward, I'm picking up on the "camera firewire died" comment.
I have two digital Sony cameras and both cannot connect/be recognized by my PC or laptop using firewire. I have a Sony TVR60 mini dv. It is back in the factory for a second time due to some sort of problem with the firewire chip. I had it back working for two months and it blew again(my description). I also have an older Sony TVR110 which linked ok to PC until 3 weeks ago when it stopped working. I am waiting for results on TVR60 before taking the 110 to a retailer. This seems to have happened since loading XP SP2; but that may be coincidence. I hope to get a more detailed report on what has been done to the TVR60 and will it happen again?? I strongly feel there is something going on between pc and camera that is affecting the camera. Possibly some operation such as unplugging cables at wrong times, etc.? I am also puzzled and annoyed. That was my understanding as well. At least until my camera's firewire I/O died and I tried finding replacements. "I've used cameras that aren't listed there and had no problem capturing it through firewire to my computer." At first, I thought it was simply because the COMPUTER didn't recognize the devices, but when it recognized Sony deck (but Premiere couldn't capture from it -- no hardware profile), I tried using WMM, figuring as you did -- once it's an AVI, who cares WHERE it came from. Still crashed. 8( Now I wonder if there's an issue with my FW card... "Do you have enough computer power to work with?" Boy, if I don't we're all hurtin'! 2+ G micro, about 2G of RAM and a few hundred G of hard drive dpace. puzzled monkey, Edward -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Because sometimes, you just HAVE to make movies. http://www.Guerrilla-Productions.org/ SPONSORED LINKS Video <http://groups.yahoo.com/gads?t=ms&k=Video+production&w1=Video+production&w2 =Video+server&w3=Video+streaming+server&w4=Adobe+premiere+training&w5=Adobe+ premiere+pro&w6=Adobe+premiere+6.5&c=6&s=145&.sig=kC3y3H5nTLvQ-rEms3zwvQ> production Video <http://groups.yahoo.com/gads?t=ms&k=Video+server&w1=Video+production&w2=Vid eo+server&w3=Video+streaming+server&w4=Adobe+premiere+training&w5=Adobe+prem iere+pro&w6=Adobe+premiere+6.5&c=6&s=145&.sig=nex0IhlMupmtl3FbCVOxOw> server Video <http://groups.yahoo.com/gads?t=ms&k=Video+streaming+server&w1=Video+product ion&w2=Video+server&w3=Video+streaming+server&w4=Adobe+premiere+training&w5= Adobe+premiere+pro&w6=Adobe+premiere+6.5&c=6&s=145&.sig=eFXlUPLj-73UJUSQL-zR vw> streaming server Adobe <http://groups.yahoo.com/gads?t=ms&k=Adobe+premiere+training&w1=Video+produc tion&w2=Video+server&w3=Video+streaming+server&w4=Adobe+premiere+training&w5 =Adobe+premiere+pro&w6=Adobe+premiere+6.5&c=6&s=145&.sig=2P9VlqDJxEQOrP3JHOw HoQ> premiere training Adobe <http://groups.yahoo.com/gads?t=ms&k=Adobe+premiere+pro&w1=Video+production& w2=Video+server&w3=Video+streaming+server&w4=Adobe+premiere+training&w5=Adob e+premiere+pro&w6=Adobe+premiere+6.5&c=6&s=145&.sig=CNdenqEIzpG2lmxo-cO1rA> premiere pro Adobe <http://groups.yahoo.com/gads?t=ms&k=Adobe+premiere+6.5&w1=Video+production& w2=Video+server&w3=Video+streaming+server&w4=Adobe+premiere+training&w5=Adob e+premiere+pro&w6=Adobe+premiere+6.5&c=6&s=145&.sig=_XzYepLtUvKntJ7pwbLDVg> premiere 6.5 _____ YAHOO!
