I picked up a firewire card with an Adaptec 5800AP chip on it. Of course since Adaptec always has the 'brilliant' idea of giving their products names that have absolutely nothing in common with the numbers on their chips...
...some hours later I discover Adaptec's nickname for the 5800AP is AHA-8940... and their Website has no drivers at all for this. Then I discovered they made an AHA-8945, which is an AHA-2940 SCSI controller with the 5800AP chip added. Their website for some reason known only to them only has Macintosh drivers for the AHA-8945. I found a Microsoft KB article that says if their drivers for the "8940" are causing trouble, use the ones provided by the manufacturer. Um, yeah, that'd be "Nameless Company Too Lazy To Put Any Identifying Marks On Our Products", or "Adaptec, Expensive Products That Work Great, Until We Decide They No Longer Exist And Remove The Drivers From Our Website". __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
