I just had a look at DVD Lab Pro 2.3 from
mediachance.com but it doesn't do BluRay or HD DVD
yet. However it is a very good DVD authoring program
that lets the user do what he wants instead of forcing
you into certain preset things.

Especially interesting is the feature (also available
as a $15 standalone program) called ReAspect that does
non-uniform resizing of images for backgrounds to
minimize distortion when scrunching 4:3 images to
16:9.
Stretch the edges, the middle, one side- put the
stretch where you want, where it won't make people
look fat.
