Thanks for your suggestion Lee. However, this is not a premiere problem - if I capture with either Premiere, Aspect HD or HDV split, I get the same unsmooth motion whether playingthe captured footage through Premiere or another media player. I was hoping Premiere could adjust the interlacing (if that is the problem) but after rendering the adjusted file, theres no significant improvement. Bah !

I think the interlace/progressive issue has more to do with combing effects during motion than jerkiness. Despite your good system it may indeed be a real-time playback speed issue, and the PPro has the Sequence > Render Work Area command is involved. The Adobe User Manual (CS3 its pg 225) or Help under Previewing Sequences explains quite a bit and states ".dynamically adjusts video quality and frame rate in order to preview the sequences in real time. During particularly complex sections.the playback quality degrades gracefully." "When you render previews PPro creates files.if you preview.PPro.plays back the preview files instead of processing the sequence again." I find any panning shots or zooming shots to be slighly jerky (by slightly i mean bad enough to prevent reading of shop signs etc as the shops slowly scroll across the frame). I'm under the impression that this is to do with playback on the PC being progressive while the footage is captured as interlaced. I gather this because returning the edited footage to the camera then playing back through the TV is okay. The computer is quad core/8gb ram/beefy video card etc so I know its not a speed issue I have tried the deinterlacing and antiflicker options in Premiere and tried various deinterlacing options in VLC player - this only helps slightly (but also degrades the picture). Are there any solutions? How are you HDV editing guys coping? [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] Yahoo!
