I started editing with Premiere 5.1. I was on the bata testing team for
Premiere 6. I have owned every version of Premiere; however, for the last two
years I have been editing with FCP 7. Now that Final Cut 7 is dead I had a
close look a FCP X and decided to pass and upgrade to PP 5.5. There was lots of
things I liked about FCP but HD is too difficult to work with if you don't have
a 64 bit program. I think that a lot of people who try to make a living in the
video industry that previously used FCP will be switching to PP or Avid. I
looked closely at Avid but the learning curve is pretty steep for a product
that doesn't really do anything more (at least for me). I think the new FCP X
is an excellent product for young filmmakers but I do event videos, primarily
live theatre. Compressor (Apple's Media Encoder) which was included in the FCS
has been upgraded very slightly and is still not 64 bit. I used to like DVD
Studio Pro but Encore gives me better looking results. FCP will still be a part
of my workflow because I will use it to sync my multi clips with Plural Eyes. I
like PP, it is like an old friend that has slowly and intelligently evolved.
