Isn't there timing information embedded in the digital recording on the tape? 
If there is a way to pre-record timecode on the whole digital tape prior to 
recording video, that would (should) eliminate problems from fast forwarding, 
rewinding or removing the tape between recordings.

That would be like 'black striping' an analog tape to lay down timecode prior 
to recording any video so the camera has it to align to and be able to seek 
precisely to the end of the last recording.

I still work mainly with digitizing from ye olde VHS using the software for my 
S-Video capture card. (Panasonic AG-1980 into a Leadtek Winfast 2000.) I use 
the HuffYUV lossless codec then edit in AP. No audio synch problems.

Why use that card? Because it knows not about copy protection and thus cannot 
get false positives on it with camcorder tapes like other cards I've used. I've 
never actually looked to see if AP can capture direct from that card.
