Just a quick note, 'some' devices need to be told to charge via USB port, if
you use a lead other than the one provided sometimes.  I think some
manufacturers link a spare pin to ground or +5V (or even short 2 unused
pins) so that the device is 'tricked' into charging, especially on the mini
USB leads/sockets.

My Tomtom the other day asked if I wanted to connect to my PC in the car,
when I presented it with a cheap 12V-5V converter for the first time, it
hasn't done it since, but I know they do it.

A portable media player I have just won't charge, it always thinks its on a
PC, change the lead and it charges.

Something to be weary of.
