I don't think the tascams are smart enough to know the diffference. If you hook it up while it is on, it will display USB connecction , think it is hooked up to the computer, shut down internal functions, putting it in file transfer mode. If it is hooked up while off, the charging lite goes on, turning off when done.
Like I said I have had no problems, these are pro audio devices built to take some abuse ----- Reply message ----- From: "BEDFORD NEIL" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Subject: [AP] Tascam DR 100 Power Supply Date: Sun, Sep 4, 2011 8:55 am Just a quick note, 'some' devices need to be told to charge via USB port, if you use a lead other than the one provided sometimes. I think some manufacturers link a spare pin to ground or +5V (or even short 2 unused pins) so that the device is 'tricked' into charging, especially on the mini USB leads/sockets. My Tomtom the other day asked if I wanted to connect to my PC in the car, when I presented it with a cheap 12V-5V converter for the first time, it hasn't done it since, but I know they do it. A portable media player I have just won't charge, it always thinks its on a PC, change the lead and it charges. Something to be weary of. Neil.
