Great idea! Perhaps not as "an instead",but as an addition including
all the arts.

A philosopher that spends a lifetime describing art (or anything
else for
that
matter) may do this by limiting all that is extraneous
(simplification) to
ever greater levels. The mental constructs become complex within
themselves
(self referential) but always at the cost of inclusiveness;
probably where
this thing we call art resides. Finally one achieves mental
closure (for this
individual on this subject) and declares that art is
dead/irrelevant/whatever.
It is not art that has died, but the individuals simplified/contained
perception of art based on their self imposed/created mental pale.
