Is that part of the blue tooth spec? Anon forwarding?

The radio is on if your WiFi interface is up (in most if not all phones).
Which means it's functioning. Pairing is not part of the equation here.

Not illegal if you opt in to it. Everyone just does by default.

So free forwarding just automagically happens? They ride some random
persons data plan?
I realize it is such a small amount of data but that is a pretty sneaky
way of getting a free ride.

The phones will pickup the Bluetooth beacon and relay the phone’s gps
to the tracking service.

Basically a GPS by proxy on behalf of the tracking token.

It relies on random folks wandering by and the Bluetooth token snagging
enough “air time” to report home.

Being lazy and not wanting to do the research.

How do the air tags work. In other words, how do they get connectivity
to the world. Most of the stuff I have read talks about blue tooth but that
isnt worth anything over distance.

I rent out some construction equipment and I am thinking of putting
them on the equipment. But I need a better understanding.
