but the ports are full because the rail can't move it away fast enough, leaving
nowhere to put containers.

None of the stuff I regularly depend on comes by rail.

Latest word from global shipping watchers was that we are now in trouble with
the US railroads. Listening to the UP FB groups sounds like the engineers are
at the end of their ropes with the big RR lines. Talks of strikes in July ( not
much left of it ) against fed laws preventing them. Kinda like the boa that
tried to swallow a deer, takes a while for the blockage to move through and any
issues can really gum up the works...

I am of the firm belief that the covid dearth of supply line products will even
out by the end of the year. Long freight train of global supplies was brought
to a halt. Takes a long time to get it back up to speed.

Mark,

Order 2 years worth of stuff from Calix. Just keep pushing the dates back. I
think I did 5 years worth of u6x/u4m/axos cards/etc (I adjust it every month,
simply push it back 30 days if you don't want them).

My guess is those POs we give them enable them to leverage that future revenue
for bigger purchases from China or whatever.

We met with Calix this week and they say they can cover it - but of course want
2 years of orders. Last time they asked for 6 months of orders which we gave
them - and they didn’t make that. They usually pull something out when we
complain but it’s getting tiring.

Expensive, but it’s their inability to actually deliver product is going to
push us to go elsewhere. Between their screwed up ERP system and the other
supply shortages it’s time to find an alternative.

Mark - how are things working out with the GPON vendor? Can’t say that is one I
have heard of (DZSI). I’m thinking it might be time to make (another) vendor
change.

Josh,

I don’t think that was us. I really haven't done anything I would say was crazy
expensive. Yes, 10 years ago when we put this in with the help of government
money, it was definitely more expensive than than wireless. However, I haven't
had to do any fork lift upgrades in 10 years. I'm using the same original
equipment at the head end. We still get some lightning damage but it is a
fraction of what we experienced with the wireless. Not having to deal with
roofs in the Florida summer is a bonus also.

We are still paying off the loan portion of the grant/loan. We believe doing
that program 10 years ago was the best business move we made for us and the
community.
