It's all input versus output (IOW calories in versus calories out).

My personal opinion is that the only thing about whatever diet plan/program, or whatever is the routine (and not the gimmick). If you can't do the routine, then nothing will work. If you can do the routine, then you don't need any of the gimmicks.

A cheaper gimmick is just using a smaller plate, and only doing one serving. Give yourself an occasional break on holidays or something.

Before you start your daily work, give yourself 30 minutes to walk around the block or anything that gets you moving. Faster doesn't really do any more than slow/moderate pace. Just moving. If you're in a cold climate, having something you can do indoors would have to be the option.

I also believe that their are myths that have been built around "low fat" and/or the "Mediterranean diet". Read the book "/The Big Fat Surprise/" by Nina Teicholz. It explodes a bunch of bad science that has been peddled to us over the last 60 years or so. It's dense; took me a couple weeks to wade through it.

There is some evidence that by getting sedentary, you may hurt yourself by actually slowing down your own metabolism. Getting exercise and eating a moderate, mixed diet seems to counter the effects. This is not fully vetted (nor is almost any diet-based so-called science).

Still trying to shed holiday pounds. Seems harder each year. I know a bunch of guys that have lost a bunch of weight with medifast. Seems expensive. I did nutrisystems years ago and it worked pretty good. Any opinions? (My wife is a fantastic cook, getting rid of her is NOT an option).
