NETCONF is for configuration, not data export. XML formatting is nice, and might be useful in a monitoring method not reliant on MIBs.
I've actually been rolling this around in my brain today... Like if I were to build a open standard for a real SNMP replacement, what features would it have? Authentication Delivery Reliability Multiple Endpoints Per-Metric Subscription (Per Endpoint) Low network overhead Low CPU overhead Data Push as well as Data Pull Structured, descriptive data format Optional Encryption I have some ideas on how to accomplish most of this, but I'm curious as to what else people want/need.
