Joshua:Surely Marvin Minsky -- a top MIT professor, with a world-beating reputation in multiple fields -- can snap his fingers and get all the required funding, whether commercial or non-profit, for AGI projects which he initiates or supports?
Definitely not - he's still looking. Obviously age is now a huge factor. But I would suspect that his actual practical (as opposed to theoretical/philosophical) record of achievement ain't that great - and those projects of his which have had any success haven't had legs. And as an investor you would look at that.
