Very stiff pedal could also be clutch springs that have lost their 
temper, as I learned to my great sorrow when the second new pivot ball 
in less than a year broke, this time in heavy, crawling rush-hour 
traffic. Bill Werner had advised me to replace the clutch the first 
time, but I was too cheap to pay the $185... so this time I paid almost 
$300 instead! Plus towing, since the Milano had eaten my year's 
allotment of free AAA tows...
